Frame Rates

This video explains about the different frame rates

Frame Rates

ImageFrame Rates is the measurement of how many frames are displayed per second to create the illusion of movement. The higher the frame rate the smoother the animation will run, because it makes a smoother transition between the images. Some frames will also be duplicated to add to the frames per second, which therefore makes the animation run smoother

Stop-Frames

Also known as Stop Motion, is an animation technique which makes still objects appear that they are moving. For each frame, the object will be moved slightly so when the frames are played it will look like the object has moved on its own. Dolls with joints and clay models are often used in Stop Motion Animations, as they are easy to move. However anything can be animated even items from your kitchen.

ImageThis technique is not to be confused with the time lapse technique this is when a still image is taken in a live area, at regular intervals and then placed together to make the changes, and when played at normal speed the sequence looks sped up- creating a lapse

Persistence of Vision

ImageIn animation, frames are usually duplicated to make them last longer. So one frame will usually be shown twice- this makes the animation run more smoothly this only works though if the character doesn’t need to be performing something quick. If a quick movement is needed the frame will only be shown once, to make an animation cheaply animators will try and duplicate the frame as many times as they can get away with for example some frames may be duplicated 3 or 4 times.

The image of the horse is an animation running at 12 frames per second

The Dark Knight Rises Trailer 3: In Lego

This video is an example of how Lego animation can be! It also gives you an idea on what you can find on http://brickfilms.com/

Websites

ImageThere are websites that are dedicated to stop motion animation. These will show users how to make their own stop motion animation videos, and people will be able to discuss different techniques that they use. Users will also be able to showcase their videos and animations and get feedback on them.

A good example of this is http://brickfilms.com/

this allows users to post Lego animations they have made, and to also learn how to make them

Mobile Phones

Even Mobile Phones allow users to send animations, and some even allow you to create your own. If you click on the image, it will open jumpingmobileup and start to move. This is a basic stop motion animation, it starts of with one frame, and then in the other frames it changes ever so slightly so that it gives the impression that it is moving. Some modern mobiles will now have apps that are dedicated to allowing the user to make their own animations- from images they have taken, or sourced or even drawn

Music Videos

Stop motion has also been used to create interesting and clever music videos, a good example of this The White Stripes- Fell In Love with a Girl (2002)

The music video, is a stop motion video that uses Lego bricks, it was directed by Michel Gondry. It was shot frame by frame, using Lego bricks, that had to be broken down and re built for some frames. Lego would not do a deal with the band, so they had to buy large amounts of Lego themselves
